The Zoom! Tooth whitening system

Are you looking for a brighter, whiter smile? The answer may be a tooth whitening treatment. Using the Zoom! tooth whitening system, we can make your smile shine. We have over 20 years experience of tooth whitening and currently offer home whitening kits and Zoom! Power Whitening.

The Zoom! in-surgery whitening system is a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure. It's safe, effective and very very fast. In just over an hour your teeth will be dramatically whiter. Zoom! whitening is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results, which makes it the perfect choice for the busy individual.

The Zoom! whitening procedure is simple and painless. It begins with a short preparation to isolate the lips and gums, and then the dentist applies a gel solution to the teeth, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become six to ten shades whiter, sometimes more, and in most cases the teeth get even whiter the first few days after the procedure. You will be amazed with the results.

The Zoom! light activated gel was developed after years of research and is a scientifically formulated, pH balanced hydrogen peroxide that, when activated by the Zoom! light, gently penetrates the teeth to remove deep stains and discolouration.

Tooth whitening is a well-established procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Hydrogen peroxide, the active agent in Zoom! has been safely used for many years in the treatment of gums and other oral soft tissue.

The whitening process is effective on most discoloured teeth. Darker stains, such as those caused by antibiotics, are more difficult to whiten. The brightness will vary between patients depending on the structure of the teeth.

Q. What is tooth whitening?

A. Tooth whitening is a bleaching process that lightens discolouration of enamel and dentine.

Q. What causes tooth discolouration?

A. There are many causes. The most common include ageing and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, coke, tobacco, red wine etc. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discolouration.

Q. Who may benefit from tooth whitening?

A. Almost anyone. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. Your dentist will be able to determine if you are a viable candidate for the procedure after a through dental examination, including a shade assessment. Tooth whitening is not recommended for pregnant ladies or children under the age of 16.

Q. Do many people whiten their teeth?

A. More people than you think. A bright sparkling smile can make a big difference for everyone. The Zoom! Whitening system makes it easier and faster than ever before.

Q. Is teeth whitening safe?

A. Yes, extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. Many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. Zoom! is not recommended for pregnant women.

Q. How does Zoom! work?

A. The Zoom! light-activated whitening gel's active ingredient is hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching coloured substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged.

Q. How is exposure to the Zoom! light controlled?

A. The Zoom! procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected. The dentist is required to monitor the procedure to ensure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and protected. Protective eyewear is required during the treatment. In some circumstances it may be necessary for an individual to consult their doctor prior to starting the treatment.

Q. How long does Zoom! whitening take?

A. The complete procedure takes approximately 1.5 hours. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by 1 hour of whitening. A 5 minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. The dentist will normally recommend a patient visit the hygienist before the treatment session to remove any surface staining.

Q. Are there any side effects?

A. Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The Zoom! light generates minimal heat, which is the usual source for discomfort. On rare occasions, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure but always dissipate.

Q. How long do the results last?

A. With simple post-whitening care, your teeth will always be lighter than they were prior to the procedure. It is possible to do top-ups with home trays at any time. Stains such as food, drink and cigarettes will stain your teeth and it is important to maintain regular hygienist visits.

Q. Will my fillings change colour?

A. No. Fillings (silver or tooth coloured), denture teeth, porcelain crowns or veneers will not change colour with tooth whitening. They will not be harmed by the procedure. Visible restorations may be changed for cosmetic reasons after whitening.
